Norwegian Beatles Podcast

Elizabeth Lewin from Podcasting News found a secret!

“Beatles music is, for the first time, available for download in a Podcast from Norwegian Broadcasting. Norwegian Broadcasting (NRK) made a 2007 documentary series on “Norgesglasset” radio, which explored “the background and history” of all 212 Beatles songs. The documentary has been re-released this week as The Daily Beatles Podcast.

The remaining Beatles, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, have been famously reluctant to offer their Beatles catalog for download, despite lucrative offers to do so. The Daily Beatles Podcast keeps to the “less-than-seventy-percent” rule, with a three-minute discussion of the song, followed by the tune itself. ”

After being very excited about learning more about the Beatles, I dashed along to the website..

Here’s what you will find.

“Due to terms still being under negotiation, our own lawyers have advised us to pull back the Podcasts containing The Beatles music.”

So there goes the wonderful knowledge that won’t get shared until the legalities are sorted out, which could take a very long time!

  1. I don’t know about you, but I was so excited to see that news about the Beatles’ music in a podcast. Even so, it seemed so, well, miraculous, given their reluctance to make their songs available for download before now.

It wasn’t a surprise, but it was a great disappointment, when the series got yanked almost as soon as it was lauched. Sigh.

Thanks for finding my post, though. I appreciate the mention. Maybe, next time, it’ll be more enduring, less fleeting, good news. :-)

Hi Elizabeth, love your work! Thanks for writing about your secret and sharing it! I was having a dig at the record companies as I think they are dinosaurs in this ever changing world!
